5th Grade Vocal Music

The music program is growing!

We are pleased to announce that all RBUSD 5th grade students will receive music education this year through the support of the Redondo Beach Educational Foundation (RBEF).

In his 4th year with RBUSD, Mr. Hughes is proud to launch a new and comprehensive Vocal Music program for 5th grade students. At the beginning of the year, students choose either Vocal Music or Band as their focus for the school year.

The new music class focuses on preparing students for middle and high school band/choral experiences through learning to read, write, evaluate and perform music through singing and movement, along with the use of technology and opportunities to play melodic and percussion instruments such as hand drums and pitched Orff instruments.

Mr. Hughes has taught music at all age levels for over 15 years, and is excited to bring his philosophy of inclusive and creative music-making to the 5th grade this year. Music classes will meet twice per week at each of the 8 Redondo Beach elementary schools.
