Read at least 12 books by Spring 2017 to qualify for the Battle!

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Battle of the Books, it is an exciting “tournament of reading.” Our 4th and 5th grade students are provided with a list of 30 book titles and are encouraged to read at least 10 books in order to join their fellow qualifying readers in a battle to answer questions about what they have read.

By spring 2015, those who have read at least 10 titles from the list will first compete in our own school battle. The winning team will then go on to represent Alta Vista in a district battle against 5 other Redondo Schools: Madison, Jefferson, Lincoln, Birney, and Beryl (new this year).

As we look forward to next year and the battles ahead, we are sending out the official list of titles for Battle of the Books 2014-15 early for any student who may be interested in getting a jump on this worthy and fun pursuit. Furthermore, as a summer reading list, this one can’t be beat.

This program is completely voluntary and should be looked at as a new and fun way to experience great literature. There are no tests, reports or assignments due! Just remember that reading is one of the best ways to relax and enjoy summer break!
